Sunrisers Hyderabad have added South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee to their squad as a replacement for David Payne, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an ankle injury. Payne had featured in two matches earlier this season before being sidelined.
Coetzee, 25, had gone unsold at the latest IPL auction but now returns to the league with a fresh opportunity. He has previously played for Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, picking up 15 wickets in 14 IPL appearances.
Although he was part of South Africa’s squad for the T20 World Cup, Coetzee did not get a chance to play in the tournament. He remained active in the format, however, featuring in all five T20 internationals against New Zealand that followed.
The fast bowler has joined Sunrisers Hyderabad for a contract worth INR 2 crore.
Meanwhile, the franchise has also received a boost with the arrival of captain Pat Cummins, who joined the squad on April 17. He is expected to be available for the upcoming fixture against Rajasthan Royals on April 25.
Currently placed fifth on the points table, Sunrisers Hyderabad are set to take on Chennai Super Kings in their next match on April 18.
